loving. eating. small.
summer travel edition

It's been raining like crazy in the east coast lately and I've been staying in and enjoying the cozy vibe of my new small space. I've been checking out and loving some amazing food blogs lately (like this blog, this blog and this blog) and was inspired to share some of my photos from my summer trip to Italy, Stockholm and London. I definitely enjoyed the food and wine on my trip and was turned on to a lot of new and interesting goodies.

I love how photos evoke such memories and inspiration. I remember shooting one of my Chianti day trips and absolutely loving the faltered wood farm tables - perfectly rustic. It definitely inspired my new farmhouse buffet. Do you have pieces in your home that are inspired from photographs?

make new city inspiration your own in your small space

While I was in Stockholm, I fell in love with the bright colors of the buildings, water and sky. (Did you know that Stockholm is all islands?) There was an elegant vibe to the city and it felt amazing walking around. I enjoyed a little bit of shopping as well, picking up some great design items for my own small space. One of my favorite items that I purchased were these Dala horses, the popular Swedish horses that are named for Sweden's home province of Dalarna. Since I am a big lover of embracing city inspiration and interpreting it through my home, it was important for me to add the Dala design item. I really loved Stockholm and wanted to take a bit of it's style with me. While I love the original version, I chose to go with a modern, striped ceramic version - more me with the design still in tact. I think adding items from your travels or even a day trip out and about to your space is fantastic! I love taking it a step further and finding a version that suits more of my personality. I can't wait to get these little guys up at home.

a fave design shop
swedish pewter // stockholm, sweden

My dear friend that hosted me in Stockholm in June did such a fantastic job of showing me the creme de la creme of design shops + lifestyle goodies throughout the city. I think I took more photos of stores and items then of the sites. :) I will sharing some of my favorite stores and design with you and first up - Svenkst Tenn / Swedish Pewter. Oh la la - what can I say about this shop?! Design inspiration galore! The space we visited was actually their temporary space as they are rebuilding their shop and design studio. It's housed in an old theater and is definitely more showroom than store. I would even call it a museum. Row after row of fabulous interior setups, fabric style, gorgeous decor. My friend pointed out that Josef Frank is a renown designer, famously known for his elephant print fabric. I snapped all the photos above and spent a lot of time enjoying the pretty environment. I just love the look of the space - colorful, bright and happy.

loving. eating. small.
summer pie + california home & design

I recently returned from my summer adventure to Stockholm, Italy and London - wow - what a trip! I was considering posting as I went but then decided - unplug. It was a really nice break but I am happy to be back and I am so insanely overloaded with design inspiration and style. I'll definitely be sharing some of the goodies that I discovered on my trip so stay tuned. (I took over 3000 photos!)

In the meantime, I am so excited and happy for my friend, Erin, and her amazing July/August issue of California Home + Design that came out a few weeks ago. As the new EIC, she rocked this issue. It's full of design ideas, visual moments and thoughtful lifestyle pieces. And she complemented the print mag with a matching digital issue. I even got to be part of a shoot featuring Matt of Matt Bites. (That's me in the blue/white tanktop with Matt and another friend) Shot at his Long Beach loft/studio, it was a great afternoon full of delicious treats on a stick and I'd-eat-with-my-hands amazing homemade pie. I absolutely loved the mosaic ashtrays that Matt and his partner collect that adorn their cement walls as a featured art gallery. The contrast of textures - matte cement balancing shiny pops of mosaic tile - truly work. I also love the idea of taking an intended item and turning it into your personal style. (Ashtray as art? Yes!) Small spaces really evolve with personal touches and small details. Click here to read the new issue of California Home + Design.

Wow - I can't believe I am off on my summer adventure in just a few weeks. I am so excited to travel and have been planning this trip for a year. I have started making a few lists to get everything in order and hope to pack some of these dream trip goodies in my suitcase.

If you read loving. loving. small. then you know I always talk about making your house a home - a place where *you* feel great and comfortable. Like my own small space, I will be bringing a few items with me to create a space in my hotel rooms that is personal to me - like a small tumbler that can act as a vase, a beautiful candle, travel speakers to play awesome music in my room when relaxing and a dream file item, a cashmere throw.

I'll be snapping photos and blogging as I go - I can't wait to take in the architecture, sights, culture and style of these amazing cities. Yes!
