SMALL SPACES
A Colorful Bungalow Inspires!

Loving this California bungalow. Full of color and texture, the small space also has zones within each room to create structure and balance. This small space is welcoming and relaxed. Oh la la.

I kind of would love to hang in this pavilion. The 10 x 10 x 10 tented small space is the perfect retreat to chill out and read a book. And the orange tones are fab!

Tempaper, A Wallpaper Solution For Renters

I realized that I never posted about my temporary wallpaper experience! A few weeks ago, I put up a few rolls of Tempaper wallpaper. This temporary wallpaper comes off as easy as it goes up. Seriously. We love the look + vibe of our small space with the paper up. We put it on 1 wall in the main room and 1 wall in the bedroom and it changed the whole look of the space. SMALL SPACE DWELLER HANDBOOK:
Using Your Floor As A Surface For Accents

One thing I seem to naturally do when I walk into a space is check out how the floor is being used. Silly, right? Well for me, the floor is just another way to use all of your space. (big or small). I definitely am about doing what you feel is comfy and good for your home. There are no "rules" in design.

One idea to consider is using your floor as a surface to place small space accents. I spotted these citrus planters in the Catherine Malandrino store. I didn't get a shot of the entire cafe space but a table wouldn't have felt right here. Instead, the planters were placed on the floor in a row. It definitely caught my eye as it was a simple and effective use of this floorspace.
Definitely consider this in your own small home.

SMALL SPACE ACCENTS: Single Detail Items

{This pretty rose came from our own backyard.}

My AT post today was about using a single detail to create a big impact in your space. I wanted to also share this with you all. As I often talk about, small space accents grouped together or even on their own can add flavor and design to your small space.

DESIGN INSPIRATION: Cathernine Malandrino Maison

I had a fab time at the Catherine Malandrino fashion show and panel discussion about pop design influences in fashion and design. Aside from her stunning nature (she's gorgeous!), the show was flirty and fun and the panel was interesting. While Catherine is known for being a fashion designer, she really love interior design. She designed her LA boutique as a lifestyle store for her clothes to "live in". Feminine yet bold colors mixed with appealing yet textural and structural design are seen across the board in Catherine's style. I personally love her store and spotted a few small space tips inside. The chic yet "make yourself comfy" cafe complimented the modern parlor area that also featured a floor-to-ceiling art gallery opposite a floor-to-ceiling metal bookcase. This definitely made a visual impact, opening up the space. Click here to learn more about this chic and interesting designer.

SMALL SPACE DWELLER HANDBOOK:
Recreating The Layout of a Small Space To Suit Your Needs

- BEFORE -

- AFTER -

Since small space dwellers have to make the *most* of the small space provided, begin creative and recreating the layout to suit your needs is super important. I love this example of recreating a layout to suit the needs for this small bedroom. Looks like the designer, Jason Martin, wanted to place the bed against one particular wall to utilize the space but a window was placed there. Instead of designing the small footprint around the window, he simple got rid of it by creating a new "wall" by way of curtains. Not only does the bedroom still have natural light from other windows but it feels bigger since the curtains are floor-to-ceiling (creating visual depth), the furniture is layered in front of the curtain and the focal point of the space has evolved. This page out of the SMALL SPACE DWELLER HANDBOOK is definitely one to check out and bookmark.
