nyc + exposed brick walls

I just booked my trip to nyc this June and can't wait! I lived in Soho for three years (a few years ago) and I do miss the energy + creative vibe of Manhattan.  This apt is what inspired this little blog and I while I have a few more square feet then that studio (only 325), I miss that little place. It was a special time. So here's to nyc - see you soon!

have a great + inspiring weekend! I am off to Sonoma to enjoy some wine country and warm weather (it's cold here in SF!)

Abito's Pods Are Intelligent Living Spaces

I spotted these very cool and very small apartment pods called abito, intelligent living spaces. The idea is that young professionals should be able to jump into the housing market as well - big or small. Chock full of amenities and small space solutions including a murphy bed, clever hidden storage and thoughtful space planning (see the neat balcony addition on every pod), the concept is clean + modern + accessible. Click here to see more, including a fun 360 of a pod.

I kind of would love to hang in this pavilion. The 10 x 10 x 10 tented small space is the perfect retreat to chill out and read a book. And the orange tones are fab!

Jonathan Adler does the Barbie Dream House

Oh la la! How fun is this real-life interpretation of Barbie's Dream House by fabulous potter and designer, Jonathan Adler? Last night's event in Malibu provided a look into this cotton candy whimsy of Barbie design and style with the touch of Jonathan's style. Ya know, I actually didn't have the Dream House growing up in the 80s but rather the pool. Barbie couldn't even fit in that pool. hmmm.

SMALL SPACE TIP...
Open Those Curtains

This kitchen opens wide with sunlight!
Loving the look of the clear chairs paired with a rustic table as well! Fabulous!

One of the most simple and free tips in your small space is to simply open those curtains and blinds. Enjoying the natural sunlight and allowing your space to breathe during the day will provide comfort and fresh vibes when you come home after a hard days work. Also, don't forget to clean the glass panes every now and then (both inside and outside) You'd be surprised at how much bigger your space will feel with clean shiny glass windows. {Image via Tim Kolk}

LOVING. LIVING. SMALL.'s READER STORIES...
Katie's Small Space Kitchen Makeover

I received a sweet email from Katie over at Making This Home the other day and she showed me her awesome kitchen makeover. Having a small space of 480 sq feet with a tiny dedicated kitchen space of only 36 sq feet, Katie and her husband knew they wanted to make some changes to really be able to use and enjoy their home.

Some of the small space solutions were to take down the walls to open the room to create an open loft-like vibe, extend the cabinets to the ceiling (a great example of using your walls), install a microwave/oven unit and a 2-burner stove top (clever!), a compact dishwasher and even a recycling container. I love that Katie thought about what was important to her and her family and designed the space to suit their needs. That is loving living small!

Click here to check out more of Katie's small space kitchen makeover and gather some fab inspiration for your own space!

I would love to hear your small space story. Send me an email and share your small space story with LOVING. LIVING. SMALL.
