OUR NEWEST PLACE TO RELAX

We just bought this vintage Mulhauser Mr. Chair lounge/ottoman set circa 1965. Yeah!

SMALL SPACE ACCENTS: Address numbers

You can even add stylish details that people will notice on the outside of your small space. Update your apartment door or address number at your home with one of these neat numbers. Home Depot and Lowes offer a ton of these that are affordable and neat.

Enjoy!

HOT HIP HOTEL FIND

A friend of mine recently told me about Palihouse, a boutique hotel in LA for the hip business traveler that offers studio, 1 or 2 bdrm lofts about 750 sq ft and up. Forgotten is generic hotel decor, Palihouse is incredibly chic and modern yet inviting - perfect for "feeling like home" on the road. I love the wall of photos behind the couch. What a cool idea for a small space and using your walls!

SMALL SPACE TRANSFORMATION

In the current issue of Cottage Living magazine, there's a great feature on transforming a small 500 sq ft unused back house into a very user-friendly secret hideaway. I love how the integrity of the building is kept via the facade yet the inside was completely redone in rich tones and textures. Wow!

SMALL SPACE HARMONY: Feng Shui

Feng Shui, the ancient Chinese practice of creating harmony and balance with one's environment, is a popular design in homes. Most people practice feng shui to create positive energy called ch'i. I love positivity so I thought I would see how we did in our space. As I read through the descriptions, I noticed there were some feng shui practices perfect for small space dwellers.

SMALL SPACE ACCENTS: Bedding

Creating a color scheme in your bedroom can be as simple as either white bedding with colorful accent pieces or colorful bedding with simple accents. Small space dwellers really showcase their bedrooms since typically they are in view from another room.

We went with a more colorful bedding (rich chocolate brown and white patterned flowers) and used the blue of our accent wall and the blue of our decorative pillows to pull the room together.

SMALL SPACE D.I.Y.: Photograph decoupage

Love this easy D.I.Y. that I found in the premiere issue of Domino (Spring/2005). Take a chest of drawers that's in need of some TLC, enlarge your favorite photo, cut to size and glue. Another way to make your small space more personal.

Enjoy!

COLOR MOMENT: Wild Flowers

We spent an amazing Saturday in Santa Barbara and Los Olivos. After stopping in Santa Barbara at our favorite lunch spot, Brophy Bros., we took a scenic drive up to Los Olivos, just 30 miles north.

On our way, we drove by this AMAZING wild flower field! What was so wonderful is that on one side of the road were never-ending flowers and the other side was the Pacific ocean. It was so peaceful yet vibrant in color! I love being inspired by nature and the gorgeous colors that it provides.

In our small space, our mirrored buffet reflects the color accents in our home and captures the natural light streaming in through our floor-to-ceiling windows. Almost like the ocean reflecting glints of the sun and sky.

Enjoy!

WOW: Skyline Residence

(via the cool hunter) Definitely not small but still inspirational....

The 5800 sq ft SKYLINE residence, designed by Belzberg Architects for owner Hagy Belzburg, is so eye-catching and jaw-dropping that the only thing you can do is gather inspiration from it! Located high in the hills of Los Angeles, the designers crafted an honest approach to creating an environment-friendly home that truly does not sacrifice beauty. With the glittery lights of Los Angeles as the backdrop, this home creates depth with the use of uninterrupted space and also a modern warmth with the use of wooden slats (love the texture) and glass.

Wow oh wow!
